This is my life in a nutshell. It's ever changing, its nomadic and one day never looks like the next. I get asked often if I like this lifestyle. "Wouldn't it be easier to have a set schedule?". Would it be easier? Sure. Would it be as awesome? No. See I LOVE being an actor. I decided early on (at the age of 3 to be exact) that this was my path, my "destiny" if you will. I stood on a stage and as I looked out at the audience and said my lines I knew deep down in my gut that's what I was gonna do for the rest of my life (there was a brief moment when I was 10 when I wanted to be an NHL hockey player, but when those dreams were dashed I went back to the whole acting thing). I have friends that still aren't quite sure what they want to do with their lives so I feel pretty darn lucky to have always know.
What is acting? Well everyone has their own opinion, but since this is my blog I'll share mine. In my opinion, I have the greatest job in the world. Movies, Theatre (and in some cases Television) make people think and feel in ways that they don’t allow themselves to do in their every day life. Being able to affect something in someone, to make them think about things in a different way, to impact them so deeply that they are changed forever, well to me that is the greatest gift in the world. That's what I do! Actors are not liars (as some people think), we are in fact, truth tellers. We tell the truth in imaginary circumstances. Acting isn’t about “pretending to be someone”, it is actually BEING someone in a situation that was created in order to tell a story. If you don't quite understand, that's okay, I don’t need to understand exactly what a contractor does to appreciate a nice house when I walk into it. Think of it this way, Actors essentially take the deepest, darkest piece of themselves - the thing that most people would never tell another living soul - and share it with the world. Actors live fully and deeply in their emotional life - and not just on stage or in front of the camera but in their real lives as well(which can, at times, wreck havoc on relationships - but that's another blog post...). Actors are the conduit for stories - the way that a violin in the conduit for a piece of music.
I love my life. I love being an actor and an artist. I LOVE story telling. Sure I have to work odd jobs, I often have to change plans last minute, I keep odd hours and most of the time must rely on the good people at Visa to help me out but everything I do because it feeds my art, I do it because I love my career. We only have one life to live so why not do what we want? I'm living my life to the fullest - and loving every second of it!
